New Mexico National Forests

Welcome to Lincoln National Forest located in the southern Rocky Mountains of New Mexico. This is the birthplace of Smokey the Bear, a legendary Forest Service Icon. This forest consists of three ranges of the Rockies including the Sacramento, Capitan, and Guadalupe Mountains and elevations range from as low as 4,000 feet ASL to as high as 11,500 feet ASL. One of the Forest Service Buildings in Alamogordo boasts the second largest solar panel array in the State of New Mexico.

Flora and Fauna: Lincoln National Forest helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the forest boundaries include oaks, maples, aspens, pinyon pines, spruces, blue columbines, and alpine daisies. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include coyotes, deer, black bears, squirrels, porcupines, and rabbits. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors Lincoln National Forests boasts the Apache Ski Resort, many miles of multipurpose trails, many mountains to climb, and so much more. Come on out and explore.

This was RecPlanet place of the day on February 20, 2017 in honor of President's Day.
