Bronx Park
Welcome to New York City's Grand Bronx Park.
Bronx Park is named for the Swedish sea captain, Jonas Bronck, who helped settle the area in 1639. Inspiration for the park came during the 1880s and was an attempt to provide more green space amidst widespread urban development. In 1891, 250 acres of original park land was granted to the New York Botanical Society. Another 250 acres was allotted to the New York Zoological Society in 1898 and is now known as the Bronx Zoo.
Bronx Park is home to many monuments and historical landmarks. The park provides playgrounds, bicycle trails, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, basketball courts, football fields, bocce courts, dog runs, and soccer fields. From gardens, history, animals, and sports, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Bronx Park. West Farms Rapids is included in this park's profile.
