Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge located in southern Oklahoma on the shores of Lake Texoma in the Central Flyway.
Refuge History: Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge has a long agricultural history. In the first half of the 20th century residents of the Washita and Chapman farms grew hopes and raised swine and poultry. 53 residences helped work this farm and there was a schoolhouse, a church, a general store, and silos. The concrete remains of these community structures can still be seen inside the refuge boundaries today. The United States Government purchased the land through eminent domain in 1946 for the creation of Lake Texoma.
Wildlife: Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including deer, fox squirrels, cottontails, egrets, ducks, herons, sand pipers, pelicans, and bald eagles. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Tishomingo National Wildlife refuge boasts the Craven Nature Trail, numerous angling opportunities, and so much more. Come on out and explore!
