Keystone State Park

Derry, Pennsylvania

Welcome to Pennsylvania's Keystone State Park located near the town of Derry. Believe it or not, the lake that exists in this park was built in order to meet the needs of the Pittsburgh Steel boom. Local coal mines needed a water supply in order to wash their coke ovens so they constructed Keystone Lake. For many years the lake was also used by mining executives as their private recreational facility until the state purchased the land in 1945. The lake itself has trout, catfish, perch, largemouth bass, and many others.
