Promised Land State Park
Welcome to Pennsylvania's Promised Land State Park.
Park History: The land that is now Promised Land State Park was formed by glacial retreat at the end of the last ice age over 20,000 years ago and was once prime hunting grounds for the Minsi Native American Tribe, a branch of the Delaware tribe. Some of the first white settlers to enter this region were members of the religious sect known as the Shakers. The Shakers did not say in the region for long but their successors harvested the land's timber resources and in the long run left many scars on the land.
At the turn of the 20th Century the State of Pennsylvania purchased the land and worked very hard over the years to help heal the scars and return the land to it's natural state. In the 1930's the Civilian Conservation Corps helped build many of the park's trails and other facilities.
Flora and Fauna: Promised Land State Park helps protect the home of numerous plant and animal species. Some of the plants that grow in the park's rocky glacial soil include pines, maples, oaks, and mountain laurels. Some of the wild animals that can be seen here include white-tailed deer, squirrels, raccoons, and black bears.
For the lover of the outdoors Promised Land State Park boasts nearly 600 acres of fishing lakes, over 50 miles of hiking trails, four campgrounds, and much more. Come on out and explore!
