Nockamixon State Park
Welcome to Pennsylvania's Nockamixon State Park located in the hill country of Bucks County.
Park History: The name Nockamixon derives from a Native American term "nocha-miska-ing" which translates to "at the place of soft soil." To this day there are still remains of many Native American sites and artifacts inside the park, most of them from the Lenape tribe, a branch of the Delaware Nation. When the park was in it's early planning stages it was named after the river that runs through it, Tohickson State Park but in 1965 the Pennsylvania State Geographic Board changed the name to Nockamixon. In 1973, the park first opened to the public.
Wildlife: The forests, wetlands, and meadows of Nockamixon State Park help protect the home of numerous wild animals including white tailed deer, raccoons, squirrels, and over 250 species of birds which include woodpeckers, ospreys, geese, ducks, and bald eagles. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Nockamixon State Park boasts miles of multipurpose trails, an 18 hole disc golf course, wind-surfing opportunites, and much more. Come on out and explore.
