Cornplanter State Forest
Welcome to Cornplanter State Forest located in northwest Pennsylvania in Forest County (What a coincidence!). This forest is named for the Chief Cornplanter of the Seneca Tribe who lived from 1750 to 1836. He helped to keep peace between the American government and the League of Iroquois. 10 miles from the forest, Colonel Edwin Drake made his first oil discovery in 1859. There is much evidence of past developments and new wells are still being drilled to this day.
Wildlife: Cornplanter State Forest helps protect the home of numerous wild animals including white-tailed deer, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, and hawks. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Cornplanter State Forest boasts over seven miles of multipurpose trails and much more. Come on out and explore!
