Welcome to Davy Crockett National Forest, a 160,000 acre oasis of eastern Texas woodlands sprawling across Trinity and Houston Counties.

Forest History: On October 15, 1936, just weeks before re-election, President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed Davy Crockett National Forest. The forest is named after legendary pioneer Davy Crockett.

Wildlife: Davy Crockett National Forest helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, doves, and the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors this forest boasts the Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area, the 20 miles long Four C National Recreation Trail, over 50 miles of horseback riding trails, and so much more. Come on out and explore.
