Fairfield Lake State Park

Welcome to Fairfield Lake State Park located in Freestone County Texas.

Park History: Long before the first European settlers arrived in the region, this land was occupied by Native Americans who used it as their hunting and fishing grounds. In the 19th century, cotten and corn plantations were set up by white settlers in the region, many of whom owned slaves who worked the farms. After the civil war African-Americans and Caucasians freely worked the cotten plantations together. World War II brought a reduction in the cotten plantations and an increase in the cattle ranches. The land was first acquired by the State of Texas in the early 1970's.

Flora and Fauna: The oak, cedar, elm, dogwood and hickroy forests of this park provide wildlife habitat for foxes, white-tailed deer, bald eagles, and many others. Please treat their home with respect when visiting.

For the recreational enthusiast Fairfield Lake State Park boasts over 15 miles of multipurpose trails, a lake filled with fish and warmed by a nearby power plant, over 96 developed campsites, numerous aquatic opportunities, and moer. Come out and explore!
