Bird’s Fort Trail Park
Welcome to Bird's Fort Trail Park located on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas/Fort Worth. This park was once the site of a Fort built by a man named Major Jonathan Bird in order to protect new settlements in the region. Once the fort was completed bird and 3 dozen other men built a trail linking Fort Bird to Fort Inglish. In the summer of 1843, General Sam Houston, who was then the President of the Republic of Texas (and the man for whom the City of Houston is named), used the trail to access Grape Vine Spring. Today visitors can still come explore the trail, visit the butterfly garden, grill some meats at the picnic area, or launch a canoe or kayak into the river.
