Gunlock State Park
Welcome to Gunlock State Park, an oasis of alpine meadows and pine forests located in the beautiful red rock county near Hurricane, Utah. The Gunlock Reservoir boasts a mild winter climate and thus offers numerous aquatic opportunities year-round and is stocked with catfish, bass, and others.
Park History: The name Gunlock comes from a small farming community north of the park. In 1857, a Mormon Pioneer from Ohio named William Haynes Hamblin settled in the region. Due to his exceptional skills at hunting and repairing the firing mechanisms of muzzleloaders known as Gunlocks, he earned himself the nickname Gunlock Will. The old Spanish trail running from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Los Angeles California ran near the park. The Gunlock reservoir was constructed in 1970 for the purposes of flood control and water irrigation.
For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts many trails, a big fishing lake, and so much more. Come on out and explore.
