Welcome to Washington Park located in Charlottesville, Virginia just west of Burley Middle School. This neighborhood park is named after Booker T. Washington, who was born into slavery but eventually became a political advisor to Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft. This is one of the most popular parks in Charlottesville and was first given to the city in 1926 by it's previous owner Paul McIntire, and the playground and picnic shelter was actually given to the city of singer Dave Matthews. Each summer this park is home to the annual African-American Cultural Arts Festival. This park boasts a handicapped accessible playground, two full basketball courts, lighted ball diamonds and multipurpose fields.
