Lake Chelan State Park
Welcome to Washington's Lake Chelan State Park located on the shores of Lake Chelan in the center of the state.
Park History: This beautiful land was once the hunting and fishing grounds of the Native Americans. The World Chelan is a Salish Word that means both "blue" and "water." One of the first white settlers to arrive in this region was a trapper by the name of John Stevenson. The remains of his cabin can still be seen in the park today. In 1880 a military post was set up here and the town was finally established in 1902.
In the 1940's the State of Washington purchased this land from a company that was involved in a real estate scandal. Today this park helps protect the home of coyotes, squirrels, chipmunks, bears, raccoons, ponderosa pines, maples, oaks, and many others. For the human visitor there are wind-surfing opportunities, numerous aquatic opportunities and more.
This park has lots of campsites (18 with electricity and water), two miles of hiking trails, a sand volleyball court, and more. Come out and have fun.
