Retzer Nature Center

Waukesha, Wisconsin

The Retzer Nature Center is named for it's former owner, John Retzer, who purchased the land in 1938 with the intention of building himself a retirement home. Thousands of plants were placed into the ground under his care and the place was returned to a state of nature. In 1973 his widow gave the land to Waukesha County for purposes of conservation and recreation. Additional purchases over the years have brought the park to it's present day size of over 300 acres.
