California State Parks
the time when Benicia was the state capitol of California from 1853-1854, the park
upholds a piece of history as the only pre-Sacramento capitol that survives. The original
capitol building has been restored and is open with era-accurate displays and learning
materials.
In addition to the capitol building, you can also explore a garden outdoors, an old
carriage house, servant’s quarters, and the Historic Fischer-Hanlon House. The
Fischer-Hanlon House was once a gold-rush era hotel, making a good representation of
the lives of upper-middle-class families in the mid-1800s through 1968.
The cost of admission is relatively low, at just a few dollars for admittance. Park-goers
can explore both the senate and assembly chambers while learning about the historical
details of the chambers and surrounding quarters. Tours are also available, so be sure
to ask about those!
To contact the park office please call 707-745-3385.
