Welcome to Fullerton's Virgil 'Gus' Grissom Park, first established in 1971 and named in memory of one of the U.S. Astronauts who died in the Apollo One fire of 1967, Virgil 'Gus' Grissom. Grissom is known as the first man in history to go two times into outer space. This is one of three City of Fullerton Parks named in memory of the astronauts of the Apollo One Fire, the other two are Edward H. White Park, and Robert B. Chaffee Park. This park was RecPlanet place of the day on September 29, 2014 and again on January 27, 2016 in honor of the 49th anniversary of the tragedy.
