Lory State Park

Welcome to Lory State Park located in the foothills just outside of Fort Collins near the Horsetooth reservoir.

Park History:The land that is now Lory State Park used to be ranchland. It was purchased by the state of Colorado in 1967 and named in honor of Dr. Charles Lory, President of Colorado State University.

Flora and Fauna: Lory State Park helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park boundaries include Douglas-firs, Rocky Mountain Junipers, Aspens, Ponderosa Pines, snowberries, gooseberries, and Indian ricegrass. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include rabbits, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, porcupines, foxes, bobcats, deer, mountain lions, black bears, and over 175 bird species. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts over 20 miles of multi-purpose trails and provides numerous water activities including rafting, kayaking, and water-skiing. One can rent out one of the park's beautiful picnic areas to host weddings and other events. Come on out and explore.
