Welcome to Connecticut's beautiful Penwood State Park.
Park History: This beautiful piece of land was once owned by an avid outdoorsman, inventor, and industrialist named Curtis Veeder. Vedeer used his skills to help build some of the park's trails and other amenities. In 1944 he donated this land to the State of Connecticut because he wanted it "be kept in a natural state so that those who love nature may enjoy this property as I have enjoyed it." Vedeer did have one string attached to the donation, and that was that camping, horseback-riding, and fires never be allowed in the park, and to this day, they are not.
For the lover of the outdoors this park does allow for hiking, picnicking, and cross country skiing in the winter. Come on out and explore. Penwood State Park was RecPlanet Park of the day on January 21, 2014.
The Simsbury Land Trust Roskear Farm Open Space Property is included in this park's acreage as is the Owen Mortimer Property.
