Welcome to Elizabeth Hartwell-Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge located in Virginia. This place was named for both George Mason, an author of the Virginia Bill of Rights, as well as Liz Hartwell, a member of the local nature conservancy who fought hard battles to protect this land from residential development and logging. In 1969 the United States Government purchased this piece of land in order to protect habitat for the nation's bird, the Bald Eagle.

Wildlife: Aside from the Bald Eagle this refuge also helps protect the home of white-tailed deer, red foxes, wild turkeys blue herons, and egrets. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors Elizabeth Hartwell-Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge boasts hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and more. Come on out and have a blast!
