Welcome to Cedar Point Preserve located on Black Hammock Island roughly ten miles from downtown Jacksonville. This barrier island preserve helps protect several ecosystem types including salt marsh, oak hammocks, pine flatwoods, and freshwater marshes. Aside from protecting the habitat of migratory birds and other resident wildlife this preserve helps to protect the local communities from storm water runoff, winds, erosion, and floods. This land was first purchased by the City of Jacksonville in May 1996 for a price of $679,000.
