Welcome to Jacksonville's Hammond Park. In the roaring 1920's this piece of land was owned by a man named E.H. Paxon and was operated as a small air strip. In 1955 the land was purchased by the City of Jacksonville and established as Paxon Park but the name was eventually changed to honor Duval County Commissioner Joseph Hampton who served for nearly 40 years and was even elected President of the National Association of County Officials. Renovations to this park occurred in 1994 and a decade later in 2004. Today this park has lighted basketball, tennis, baseball, and softball facilities thus allowing for night games. Some of it's other features include a multipurpose field and a playground. Come out and have fun!

This was RecPlanet place of the day on May 8, 2015.
