Welcome to Jacksonville's Marion Park. Because the surrounded neighborhood was built around a Revolutionary War theme, it was decided that this park be named after a Revolutionary War Veteran, Francis Marion, after whom a South Carolina National Forest is also named. Marion's successful tacticts earned him the nickname of "Swamp Fox" and helped him get promoted to the rank of General. While General he played a key role in defeating the British forces in the Carolinas and there was even a time when the fort at St. Augustine was named after him. This park was first established in 1944 and received a playground and tennis courts in 1965. Further improvements in the late 20th and early 21st century brought a sprayground and picnic tables with grills. Come on out and have a blast!
