Passage Key National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to one of the first National Wildlife Refuges to be established in the United States, Passage Key National Wildlife Refuge located in Crystal River Florida. This small barrier island first became Passage Key National Wildlife Refuge in 1905. In 1920 the island was devastated by a Hurricane. Today it protects the largest colonies of royal terns and sandwich terns in the State of Florida. Due to the fragility of this ecosystem this refuge is closed to the public.
