Sands Main Street Prairie Nature Preserve

Welcome to the Sands Main Street Prairie Nature Preserve located in Cary, Illinois. This land was first purchased with help from The Nature Conservancy in 1990 and helps to protect one of the most pristine prairies in McHenry County, Illinois. Before this land was purchased for conservation it was used for both agricultural as well as mining purposes. It is believed that some of the sand and gravel from this site helped build the original city hall.
