Welcome to Chicago's Brands Park!

Park History: This park is named for the Brands family, a German American family that owned this parcel of land for many years. Long before the land was officially designated a park it was a popular picnic site. In the early 20th century local residents began to petition for the parks board to purchase the land. The property owner did not drive an easy bargain and it was not until 1927 when the parks board finally made the purchase. In the years following many new features were added including an ice-skating pond, a basketball court, tennis courts, and a new field house. Further renovations went underway in the 1970's.
