Welcome to Chicago's Independence Park located in the Irving Park neighborhood. This park came into existence in the early 20th century when local residents began to advocate for more parks in their neighborhood. Their wish was granted when the Irving Park District was established at the end of the first decade. Independence Park was one of the first parks created by the district and it got it's name due to the fact that the annual 4th of July (a.k.a. Independence Day) celebrations were held there. Independence Park boasts a number of historic structures including the women's community building which served as a bungalow in the 1920's as well as the fieldhouse which was designed by Hatzfield and Knox. Today one can come out here to play some tennis on the park's four courts, cool down at the sprayground on a hot summer day, and celebrate the 4th of July. Come out and have fun!
