Welcome to Chicago's beautiful Leone Beach Park located on the shores of Lake Michigan. Until the early part of the 20th Century this land was owned and used for water purposes by the Rogers Park Water Company. In 1919 the City of Chicago purchased the land for recreational use and converted the old pumphouse into a fieldhouse. By 1937 there was over 250 feet of beachfront. In 1966 the site was named in honor of a man named Sam Leone, a United States Navy Veteran of World War I and former lifeguard for the City Parks department.
