Welcome to Chicago's Mather Park located in the West Ridge section of town. This was one of many urban parks that were established to meet the growing recreational needs of the post World War II era. Both the park and the nearby high school are named for Stephen Tyng Mather who was the first director of the National Park Service. The park's community center offers many athletic programs. The open field is wide enough for kite-flying on windy days.
