Welcome to Chicago's Shabbona Park.

Park History: First established in 1928 by the Old Portage Park District, Shabbona Park was named for the generous Potawatomi Chief Shabbona who warned many white settlers of Chief Black Hawk's violent intentions to take back native lands. Sadly, Shabbona was not awarded by the Government for his generosity and was instead sent west to live on a resservation. However in 1854, he returned to Ottawa, Illinois in 1854 where the local residents did reward him for his generosity by giving him a warm welcome. In 1859 Shabbona passed away in Ottawa.

In 1934 the Chicago Park District absorbed many of the smaller park districts including the Old Portage Park District and thus took over management of Shabbona Park. The park received various renovations in the 1940's, 1950's, and 1990's. Today she boasts a spraypool, tennis courts, a playground for the kids, and much more. Come on out and have fun!

The park's office number is 773-685-6205.
