Des Plaines River Trail and Greenway

Welcome to the Des Plaines River Trail and Greenway! This preserve protects over 3,000 acres of Lake County as well as over 85% of the banks of the Des Plaines River. The trail stretches for over 30 miles and connects the Greenway with other parks and preserves in Lake County. This preserve is compared to a Pearl Necklace as it connects and protects 10 forest preserves from Deerfield Illinois to the Wisconsin State Line. It protects habitat for creatures such as beavers, herons, and turtles and plants such as oaks, hickories, and maples.
