Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve
Welcome to Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve, an oasis of wetlands, forests, and wildflowers located in Grayslake, Illinois.
Preserve History: Much of the land that is now Rollins Savanna was once farmland. Lake County purchased the land in stages between 1988 and 1993. Over the years, numerous organizations including the Northeastern Illinois Wetland Conservation Account, Ducks Unlimited, the State of Illinois, and the Conservation Fund have spent over $1 million on numerous restorations and other improvements to the preserve. Today it is one of the largest forest preserves in Lake County.
Wildlife: The pristine habitat of this forest preserve helps protect the home of numerous wild animals including turtles, snakes, herons, hawks, raccoons, and squirrels. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this preserve boasts over five miles of multipurpose trails, and much more. Come on out and explore. The open field is wide enough for kite flying on windy days.
