Illini State Park
Welcome to Illini State Park, named for the Illinois tribe who once inhabited the land. Many people come to this park to see the Great Falls and roaring rapids of the Illinois River.
Park History: The land that makes up Illini State Park was once part of a coal mining region that lasted up until World War II. Some of the buildings from Marseilles Industries are still standing in and around the park today and the historic Illinois and Michigan Canal runs nearby. In the 1920's a barge canal was built to bypass the rapids of the Illinois River. This land became a State Park in 1935.
Plants and animals: Some of the park's plants include hickory, ash, cottonwood, oak, maple, and elm trees. Some of the park's animals include beavers, raccoons, squirrels, deer and many others. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts a baseball diamond, a skating pond in the winter, a boat ramp, and several campsites (both tent and trailer). Come on out and have fun!
