Yellowwood State Forest
Welcome to Yellowwood State Forest located in Brown County, Indiana near Nashville.
Forest History: In 1940, Yellowwood State Forest was established on land leased to the State of Indiana by the U.S. Government. In 1956, the Federal Government transferred ownership of the land to the state. The Civilian Conservation Corps and the Heritage Trust fund have helped to build the forest’s amenities and expand it’s acreage over the years.
Flora and Fauna: Yellowwood State Forest helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the boundaries include black walnuts, pines, and oaks. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include deer, foxes, raccoons, and wild turkeys. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Yellowwood State Forest boasts gold-panning (permit required), a 133 acre fishing lake, over 40 miles of trails, and much more. Come on out and explore.
This forest grew in size by over 122 acres in May 2026.
