South Mountain State Park

The beautiful South Mountain State Park is located in Maryland's Appalachian Mountain region along the Appalachian Trail. The nearly 2,200 mile trail follows the mountain range from Georgia to Maine. On September 14, 1862 a major Civil War Battle was fought near South Mountain. Some of the park's wildlife include black bears, red-tailed hawks, bald eagles, and white-tailed deer. Come out and explore.
