Thurnau Conservation Area

Craig, Missouri

Welcome to Thurnau Conservation Area located on the banks of the Missouri River in Craig, Missouri in Holt County. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers purchased this sections as part of the Missouri River Mitigation Project and the State of Missouri purchased this first parcel in 1965 in order to protect valuable wetland habitat. Another historical fact is that this area was once part of the 1836 Platte Purchase, a deal the government made with the Native Americans. Many hunters come to Thurnau Conservation Area for deer, dove, quail, and rabbit and wild turkey and the angers come mainly for catfish.
