Walter Woods Conservation Area

Joplin, Missouri

Welcome to Walter Woods Conservation Area located in Joplin, Missouri. This forest preserve is named for the man who once owned the l and as far back as 1931, Dr. Otto Walter who co-owned it with the Izaak Walton League. Many of the preserve's structures were built by the Works Progress Administration under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the Izaak Walton League operated a fish hatchery here for many years. The Izaak Walton League generously donated this land to the state in 1985 and many improvements have been made since then. Come out and explore the trails.
