Night Skiing
Night skiing deserves a quiet night. Although I take liberties with the original R.E.M. lyric, night skiing does, in fact, deserve a quiet night.
Keystone Resort offers a limited number of runs for skiing in the dark. I went last week for the first time at Keystone and had a blast. There were very few people and the quietness increased the odd sensation of skiing with sensory deprivation. The lack of depth perception because of the intense shadows heightens the rest of your senses and there were several times when I was flying down the hill that I thought, “oh boy, I’m in trouble if I take a tumble now.” But skiing in twilight is definitely worth the risk and am looking forward to trying it out again later in the season when it’s not quite so icy.
