Riker Hill Park

Livingston, New Jersey

Welcome to Essex County's Riker Hill Park located in Livingston, New Jersey. This piece of land was once the site of a U.S. Army Nike Missile base in the 1950's but in 1974 the county purchased this land from the U.S. Government for only one dollar (almost as good a deal as the 3 cents an acre Alaskan purchase). The bases buildings were converted into the park's contemporary art galleries and studios. Today Riker Hill Park is Essex County's only self-supporting park. Come out and have fun.

This was RecPlanet place of the day on August 7, 2015.
