Brookdale Park

Montclair, New Jersey

Welcome to Brookdale Park located in Montclair, New Jersey in the northeastern part of Essex County.

Park History: The land that is now Brookdale Park was once a gathering ground for the Lenni-Lenape Native American tribe. In the 17th century it was transformed into agricultural land by new Dutch settlers. The settlers named the place Stonehouse Plains but when the local Post Office was established in the late 19th Century they were forced to choose a shorter name for the town and ended up choosing Brookdale. The county purchased the land between 1928 and 1931. The Olmsted Brothers and other organizations helped to landscape the park and develop it's amenities to create what is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Essex County. Come on out and have fun.
