Bottomless Lakes State Park

Welcome to Bottomless Lakes State Park! This is one of the more unique parks in the New Mexico State Park system. It's water chemistry and geology allow for unusual plants such as the Pecos Sunflower to grow in the soils here. The park's name comes from the illusion created by the lake's color which makes them look bottomless. Cowboy's once tried to touch bottom using their combined saddle ropes but never succeeded. The deepest part of the lakes is 90 feet and this is one of the few places in New Mexico where one can come to Scuba-Dive. This was also the first New Mexico State Park, established in 1933.

Park fun fact: It is rumored that in this park, which is near Roswell, that there are alien bodies lying at the bottom of the deepest point of the lake. (RecPlanet Joke!)   For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts numerous water activities including scuba diving, over 30 campsites, and so much more. Come on out and explore!
