Ciccarone Park
Welcome to New York City's Ciccarone Park. This urban playground was first established in 1934 along with 8 other playgrounds that were created using money from the $250K War Memorial Fund that was established by the New York Police Department in 1921. Over those 13 years the fund grew in value by $100K and City Commissioner Robert Moses obtained a court order for the money to be spent. The court ruling did have one condition, and that was that all of the parks be named for soldiers who died in the line of duty while serving their country. This particular park was named for Vincent Ciccarone.
This was RecPlanet place of the day on February 12, 2016.
