Haffen Park

The Bronx, New York

Welcome to New York City's Haffen Park, named for GermanAmerican Louis Haffen, who served as the first Borough President of the Bronx. Haffen was an alumnus of St. John's College (Present Day Fordham University), Niagara College, and Columbia University. After obtaining degrees in Civil Engineering and Law, Haffen moved to out west to pursue a career in mining in 1882. His mining career was short lived, and in 1883 Haffen returned to New York City and became the City Surveyor, and eventually Superintendent of the Parks. Thus it is quite fitting that they would name a park after this man. Today this park boasts handball courts, a sprayground, and much more. Come on out and have a blast!
