Welcome to Long Hunter State Park located on the shores of 14,000 acre J. Percy Priest Lake. The park provides numerous recreational opportunities including thousands of acres of water and miles of multi-purpose trails.

Park History: The area that is now Long Hunter State Park was occupied by various Native American tribes for about 10,000 years. Some of these tribes include the Cherokee, Creek, and Shawnee tribes. The French Indian War of the 1760's opened the land up to settlement by white man. Men from the colonies of Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Virginia flocked here to take advantage of the hunting trade. Daniel Boone, was one of these men. Many of the parks rivers were named for the white men who settled the region including Uriah Stone and Kasper Mansker. Today hikers can see the remains of the buildings of the early settlers. Come on our and see for yourself!
