Welcome to the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve! This preserve was established in 1974 by a group of women involved in the "Now or Never" group in order to protect some of the pristine Central Texas Hill Country as well as to provide nature education programs to the local school children. This preserve consists of woodlands, flowing streams, and grasslands and visitors can enjoy the more than two miles of hiking trails through the preserve.

Park History: The women who were members of the "Now or Never" group helped to found this preserve. They received some help from the Audubon Society and tried to get the Texas Parks and Wildlife Division interested into making it a state park. Ultimately the TPWD said that the land was too small to justify State Park status. Thus the groups had to get help from local city officials as well as the nature conservancy and even the U.S Department of Interior in order to raise the money necessary to purchase the land. The fund-raising efforts were a huge success and today the preserve is enjoyed by thousands of people annually. Come on out and explore!
