Welcome to one of the larger parks located in San Antonio, Texas, the beautiful McAllister Park.

Park History: The first 700 acres of this park were first purchased by the City of San Antonio back in the mid-1960's using both local and federal grants. In 1968, the park first opened to the public as Northeast Preserve. In 1974 the city voted to rename the park in honor of Walter W. McAllister, former mayor of San Antonio.

Additional tracts were purchased over the years bringing the park to it's present day size of nearly 1,000 acres. Local funds helped improve some of the park's trailhead and restroom facilities in the mid-1990's and in 2007 nearly $1.7 million in improvements brought in a new dog park, picnic shelter, and playgrounds. 

Today this park has over five miles of paved trails and ten miles of unpaved trails, both of which are open to foot and bicycle traffic. There are also eight baseball fields, 22 soccer fields, and much more. The park also protects the wildlife habitat of deer, raccoons, owls, red-tailed hawks, chipmunks, squirrels, and numerous others. Come out and have an adventure!
