Welcome to Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park.
Park History: It is important for the visitor to remember that this park is a gravesite, in fact it is labelled as the continents bloodiest landscape due to the fact that 15,000 men died here and 85,000 were wounded. Four Civil War battles were fought here, The Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Spotsylvania, The Battle of Chancellorsville, and The Battle of Wilderness. Some of the famous Confederate participants included Stonewall Jackson, JEB Stuart, Robert E. Lee, and James Longstreet. Some of the famous Union participants included Ambrose Burnside, George Armstrong Custer, and Oliver Wendell Holmes. The park's museums and exhibits go into much further detail about the battles and the men who fought them.
Flora and Fauna: Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park boasts 6,500 acres of forest and 1,100 acres of fields that help protect the homes of numerous plant and animal species.
