Welcome to Quechee State Park, home of Vermont's deepest Gorge.
Park History: The Quechee Gorge itself was formed from both the flowing of the Ottauquechee River as well as glacial retreat at the end of the last ice age more than 13,000 years ago. In more recent times this land was owned by the A.G. Dewey Company which operated a successful woolen mill on the site for many years and gave job opportunities to hundreds of people. The mill was powered by the areas waterfalls and by the mid 1930's it was the oldest operating shoddy mill in the United States. Some of the materials made at this mill went into uniforms for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees and also helped keep our nation's soldiers and sailors warm by making fine blankets.
After the mill closed in 1952 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began to use the land in a flood control project and built the park's present day reservoir. In 1965 the State of Vermont began to lease this land from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. So even though it's called a State Park, the land actually belongs to Uncle Sam.
For the lover of the outdoors Quechee State Park boasts dozens of campsites for both tents and trailers, a hiking trail, and much more. Come on out and have fun.
