Seattle Washington Parks

Welcome to Seattle's Denny Park. This land was first given to the City of Seattle by it's owner David Denny, a pioneer, in 1864 to be used as a cemetery. In 1883, after nearly two decades of being used as a cemetery, Mr. and Mrs. David Denny decided to rededicate the land as a public park and used taxpayer money to move all the graves elsewhere. In the late 19th and early 20th century the park saw many improvements including the construction of walking paths and an administration building. Unfortunately many of the changes went against the Denny's wishes. Today this park boasts a small urban forest of pines, rhododendrons, maples, and pines where one can attempt to escape the noise and traffic of the City of Seattle.

Denny Park was RecPlanet place of the day on December 24, 2014.
