Welcome to Seattle's Leschi Park. First established in 1909, Leschi Park was once a campground of the Native American Chief Leschi of the Nisqually Tribe. Sadly, territorial Governor Isaac Stevens had Leschi hanged for his participation in the Battle of Seattle in 1856. In 1889 this piece of land became an amusement park with boat rentals, a casino, and a zoo. In 1903 the zoo animals were donated to the city and the land was sold to the city in 1909. Today this park boasts tennis courts, a boat launch, and a playground for the kids. Come on out and have fun.
