Welcome to Sam Smith Park located in Seattle, Washington. This urban park is named for renouned African American man who held political office for over three decades, Sam Smith. Smith served five terms in the Washington State Legislature and five terms in the Seattle City Council. Smith was known for having a gift at uniting people together and the Urban League of Greater Seattle stated that his “ability to bring together people, with different and often competing interests, during difficult times, is legendary. This park…is the ideal symbol of his collaborative spirit and commitment to all people.” This park was established in 1998 and boasts a soccer field, tennis courts, and a piece of art known as the Urban Peace Circle dedicated in memory of children killed by gun violence in Seattle's high crime neighborhoods.
